…and then the snake was actually good and helped her!
I’m reading Creole and Latin American folktales so I can figure out what Henri is going to say to Sam.
In the story that this drawing is based on, the girl needs to escape a witch. Turns out the snake is a young man who was turned into a snake, but for the whole story, he’s a good character and you think he’s just a bad ass snake.
This blew my mind! Snakes are never good characters, unless people go the “wisdom” route with them. Very, very cool.
*It's very common for the story teller to be telling the story and then directly address the audience in the Creole tales that I have been reading.
